Easy to install. My wife noticed a difference to the heat level in a room where they were installed (radiator on Full) so they obviously make a difference. I dont monitor my gas usage closely enough to tell how much any saving is
Insulating radiator panels are not a new idea. They've been around for many years but are not as widespread as they should be. Every property with radiators should have them, they're the equivalent of the energy saving light bulb to lighting, saving property owners both energy and money. And - best of all - once fitted you can forget about them! The reduction in heating costs is reported to be a minimum of 8% and can be much more significant, which means the panels should pay for themselves in just 1-2 years. Not bad considering they should last a life time.
The product is a very simple but clever design, consisting of silver reflective panels with 3 ribbed sections of different widths (so they can fit different sizes of radiators) along with some double sided tape. The only packaging is a simple cardboard box.
These panels stand out from similar products because their design adds to their effectiveness:
- They are made from a material that reflects radiant heat. This stops it passing into the walls, much like covering a (free range) chicken with tin foil so it speeds up the cooking time.
- The panels create an air gap between the radiator and the wall which slows conduction of heat through the wall as the air gap is a good insulator.
- The ribbed shape of the panels encourages the warm air from the radiator to circulate around the room more quickly, improving heat convection and reducing the amount of conducted heat passing in to the walls.
However installation of the product is more fiddly and complex than just slotting the panels behind the radiator, but the detailed instructions help and it's worth spending the 20-30 minutes to get the panels installed properly.
