Although not a catchy title, this book brings together a wealth and breadth of opinion on all parts of our lives and how we might still enjoy them in a post-Climate Change world. The editors come from the exciting end of philosophy and, by putting this book together, they try to tackle some important issues but without being boring! The contributors of the book range from Philip Pullman of Dark Materials fame through to Tom Hodgkinson of the Idler magazine and Lazy Parenting.
I guess my favourites are Adair Turner for actually discussing the issues around the continual yearning for economic growth. He grasps it and discusses it without shame, which is both hard intellectually and politically. Colin Tudge for covering everything from the middle classes to Hindu mystics, putting Climate Change in perspective both evolutionarily and historically. John Bird on his take on social engagement, and not excluding different parts of society in the Climate Change debate.
There are of course some of the pieces I don't agree with, but either the book or I would be very boring if we agreed on everything. Please read it for yourself and maybe you'll be able to guess which of articles I didn't quite see eye to eye with!
