People in Britain use an average of 300 plastic bags every year. Each bag lasts up to 400 years, spending the vast majority of that time in a landfill site or strewn across the British countryside.

The Good Energy shopping bag is made from 100% jute which is a strong, durable and biodegradable material. Jute is a vegetable-bast fibre plant (it's not a typo that is 'bast') from the same family as hemp and linseed. As well as being natural and easy to grow in rotation with other crops, jute also converts CO2 to O2 faster than most trees.

GoJute who make the bags have ensured that their production and supply are zero carbon status. This means all their activities that do have a carbon footprint have been offset by investing in a range of African Energy Efficiency and forestry projects. These include working with local social groups to supply them with energy efficient cooking stoves or solar powered sun ovens. GoJute also use Good Energy as their electricity supplier for their offices.
