The wind-up Eco Lantern is the perfect accessory for the outdoor type.

From the man that created the original wind-up radio comes another great idea. The Eco Lantern adds a little bit more luxury to a camping trip and provides great lighting for al fresco cooking, eating and general socialising.
The lantern has two modes: full power which uses five super-bright LEDs for strong lighting and an amber ‘night light' setting for softer lighting. The smooth winding crank is built into the lantern base and one minute of winding will provide twenty minutes of light. Or if you're too tired from cooking all those organic sausages on the barbeque, you can charge the Eco Lantern from your car. Although remember this means the Eco Lantern is no longer officially ‘eco'.
The Eco Lantern is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It's light and easy-to-carry with a handle built into the base and the option to be fixed to the wall. Ideal for camping, fishing, festivals or simply lighting the way when you've had a power cut.

There's a button to press to turn the light on and off. The same button also gives you a night-light mode - with a slightly orange light. And the instructions on the box say that if you wind it up for 1 minute it will give you 20 minutes of light. Given my experience with the 3 minute wind, I wondered if it wouldn't do more. Tried winding it for 30 seconds and it stayed light for a good 15 minutes - but the light does get dimmer in this time.
My only criticism is that the handle for winding could be easier to pull out. But that's quite a minor issue - it didn't take me too long to figure it out.
And another thing. You can hang the lantern from it's handle or let it sit on the floor. Anyway, I'm going to take it camping with me - and give some as presents. A really useful eco-product, not just a gimmick.

Want to liberate yourself from batteries? Need a new torch or light source? Buy this nifty Eco Lantern! It's a product that really does do exactly what it says.
What really surprised me was how bright the Eco Lantern is on full power mode, and how winding the lamp (which has a smooth and resistance free action) for a mere minute really does give it enough juice for 20 minutes of light!
It has become an instant and irreplaceable hit in my house, simply because the lamp is so well designed and stylish. In fact it's started an ongoing debate about what the Eco Lantern resembles more it reminds me of gypsy's crystal ball, whereas my partner favours an ancient alien artefact!
My only criticism of the Eco Lantern is that it comes with an in-car charger. With the winding action as smooth as it is and 3 minutes of cranking providing 4 hours of light, the charger really is redundant and pointless. And might encourage unnecessary charging from a non-renewable source.
Think of any situation in which you need a light source and this lamp can be used for it. The Eco Lantern really is that great.

This lamp is ideal for those going camping where there may not be access to a power point to charge the lamp as with other brands of camping lamp. Personally, I would find this lamp ideal on the night fishing trips that I brave from time to time. No toxic batteries needed! It also has a charge function via a cigarette lighter for those situations where you have access to a car.
There are a couple of other notable functions for this lamp. As suggested, it would be ideal in those situations where your Good Energy supply is unfortunately interrupted and you need to still do jobs around the house. It also has a handle on the back to hang from a hook or strap which are found on the roof of many modern tents.
I can also see this light being really handy for keeping in the car for providing extra light under the bonnet should you need to change the oil or have a breakdown.
The illumination of this lamp lasts above the 20 mins specified after 1 minute of winding and a full 4 hour charge will take approximately 10-12 minutes. I am not sure what specific use the soft amber night light function would fulfil, but this can last for up to 60 hours on a full charge.
All in all, this is a really good lamp and I would definitely buy it, perhaps solely for the purpose of camping and fishing trips! It is a compact, lighter and more practical alternative to larger camping lamps.
